Meet our guides...

Bio: I’m a keen multi-sport athelete and have competed in various competitions including the Peak-to-Peak (I’ve done this race five times and the last time our our team was placed 5th), The Routeburn Classic (first place), the Kepler Challenge, Southern Traverse and the Mototapu Marathon. I also enjoy cycling, and have worked as a mountain bike guide in the past. In 2007 I won the the Guide’s Choice awards with the ‘Xtreme’ Rimu trip, which visits my favourite places and gives people a chance to challenge themselves physically and push their personal boundaries - which is something I think is really important! What our clients have said: "I'm still laughing about some of the funny things Jim said. Cooking-wise, he is top-notch, my mouth still waters to think about some of the meals we received from him! Jim was also very patient with everyone as well, which has to be the most challenging part of his job as a guide. He still claims that guides 'weren't allowed' to sing karaoke, but I'm not sure if I believe him..." "Jim was awesome. He provided encouragement and enthusiasm for you to go the extra distance; with that attitude it is no wonder Jim is a outstanding athlete. Enjoyed how Jim would ride his road bike up and down the line checking on everyone. Totally in awe how he can climb hills in no time at all while I only hope to be able to achieve that level of skill some year." "Jim was brilliant. It amazed all of the members on just how motivated Jim was. He was passionate his role as a co-guide and it really showed through. Jim made sure throughout the whole trip that everyone was comfortable and made a point of having individual chats with people to make sure there personal needs were being taken care off. Jim knowledge of the tramps and areas we were traveling through was outstanding. He had a great knowledge of the outdoors in the South Island, including other activities or areas to travel to if any of us decided to travel further through the South Island. Jim made sure that any questions (no matter how obscure, and some were) were answered. Both Jim and Roger were motivated and professional and by far the best guides I have been traveling with." "Jim is a natural leader. He is extremely patient and engaging, and very flexible - he made sure that the purists had a great trip by going the distance with them and finding cool mountain bike trails, and he also made sure the slower members of the group had a good time and were not pressured. Just awesome!" |
